FILM DETAILS: According to director’s recent research “in the name of tradition” although in decline in the recent years but many girls are still cut in some villages of South of Iran and with less degree in west of Iran.
This ethnography film will explore this phenomenon by directly talking to locals, parents, clergy men, Doctors and most importantly people who do this practice for living including local men. The film which is first of its kind to be made on this issue (FGM) in Iran By capturing film while team of young women intervening local women in west Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, Kermanshah and Hormozgan provinces, most local men and women interviewed in this film themselves and their daughters are circumcised and some trying to carry on this tradition for the sake of their religion and tradition.
You would also hear advice from local doctors calling the public to stop this tradition. the film will end when a top clergyman from a mosque encourages mothers and fathers to do this to their new-born girls and reassure the public it’s not only doesn’t harm them and will not have a negative effect in their sexual drive but it will increase the pleasure of sex between men and women.
